Speak Up club is an incredible schools initiative created by the National Theatre, connecting artists with schools to create meaningful work and encourage young people to speak up about the things they care about. I have been lucky to work on this project for three years as a lead artist at two participating schools. We have created installations, large scale textiles, films and even an original musical. Speak Up the musical was devised, designed and created by myself, Joshua Val Martin and the students at Hollingworth Academy. Performed at the Lowry Theatre, this musical enabled the young people to fulfil the dream of creating an original musical and Speak Up about the things they would like to see in their school change for the better.
