As the lead artist for the Home from Home women’s group in Gorton, I was invited to curate a body of work with the women of the group for exhibition at the Inspire Gallery at HOME MCR.
Working collaboratively with the group, we explored themes of self-celebration, identity and the things we value about ourselves through ceramics. Together, we created a collection of vessels, each representing something personal that the women wanted to celebrate about themselves.
The exhibition also featured a collection of reclaimed aprons, exploring the experiences and stories of women from the past and present, and reflecting on the often unseen roles women have held within their families and communities.
Alongside the visual artwork, the exhibition showcased the creative writing of the Home from Home group. I had the joy of working with the women to transform their poems and creative writing into a series of illustrated collage artworks, creating a visual response to their words.
I was responsible for the creative development and curation of the exhibition, bringing together ceramics, textiles, illustration, collage and creative writing into one cohesive body of work.
The exhibition was created by me in collaboration with the women of Home from Home and ran for three months at HOME MCR.
