Capacity to hold is a piece of community intervention which is part improvised song, part story storytelling and part clay workshop. This project was kindly commissioned by the Lancashire Fringe festival and took place at Preston bus station.
Participants engaged with my six hour performance, hearing the stories of self identifying women and their achievements, whilst making little celebration pinch pots to take home. Each participant had the opportunity to tell me their own story which I would then improvise sing back to them, accompanied by the incredible Joshua Val Martin on guitar.
Throughout the day, we met over 120 people who listen to the stories of over 50 women and their achievements .
This project is part of an ongoing creative exploration of female identity and reclaiming the iconic representation of women as vessels. It seeks to challenge the ideas that women’s value is in their ability to hold and grow children, but actually women are extraordinary and hold the capacity to do many things.
